MEET ALICE

Hi I'm Alice Price and I am running for the  Board of Directors for Perdenales Electrical Co-op, for District 5. I am an attorney with 30 years of experience, current Commissioner of the ESD Board #8, and believe I can provide excellent leadership and value to the members of District 5.

The cooperative business model in Texas ensures electricity in historically underserved areas. Member-owned nonprofits reinvest proceeds to provide reliable power, infrastructure, education, and community programs. Our ancestors built these co-ops to guarantee that even rural areas would always have access to electricity, securing a stable future for generations.

I was raised in Burnet County, which instilled in me a deep-rooted commitment to our community's well-being. My law degree has equipped me with the analytical and regulatory expertise needed for sound governance. With my experience as an Assistant District Attorney, I’ve developed a keen sense of justice, transparency, and effective decision-making under pressure. Furthermore, serving as a Commissioner for ESD #8 has deepened my understanding of regional public service and strategic planning.

WHY
DO I WANT TO SERVE ON THE PEC BOARD

I am pursuing the PEC Directorship to uphold democratic governance, strengthen essential community programs, and champion ongoing education for a sustainable future. Our grandparents and parents founded co-ops to ensure rural communities would always have access to electricity, providing a foundation of stability for generations to come. I am committed to continuing that tradition and contributing to PEC's legacy of service and progress.

I am deeply dedicated to ensuring that our community has access to affordable and reliable energy. My grandparents' experiences during the early electrification period inspire me; I view electricity as a privilege, not a right.

Many small towns in our district gained electric service around 1915, while those in rural areas didn't have electric lights until the 1940s, which significantly transformed lives. Today, we rarely face outages like we did in my childhood, thanks to the PEC's robust infrastructure, making electricity something we often take for granted until it goes out or we see our bill.

HOW
CAN I BEST SERVE THE PEC

I grew up in Burnet County, and I feel a deep connection to my small-town and rural neighbors. Being one of you, I understand the unique challenges that come with rural life, as well as the values that define small-town living: fairness to your neighbor, valuing your word, and being a person of action rather than just words.

These experiences, combined with my legal training, have shaped my sense of community, grounded my common sense, and honed my leadership skills. I believe these qualities will enable me to effectively engage with the community and bring practical, fair-minded leadership to PEC.

I have had the honor of serving as a commissioner on the ESD #8 board for the past three years. This role has provided me with direct experience in budgeting, strategic planning, and overseeing the policies and procedures of the department.

I pride myself on my ability to interact with others in a pleasant and professional manner. I approach conversations with a sense of respect, openness, and adaptability, making it easy to connect and collaborate with people from all walks of life. I am genuinely open to any ideas that our co-op members might suggest to improve our service or enhance the efficiency of PEC operations. My approachable nature and willingness to listen will ensure that all voices are heard and valued, fostering a spirit of teamwork and innovation.

WHAT
ARE MY GOALS AS YOUR PEC DIRECTOR
  • Continue to keep electric rates low and use empirical data to try and lower rates even more.

  • Maintain PEC’s excellent customer service and try to engage the public with the “HUB APP”.

  • Enhance our scholarship programs and provide even more opportunities for graduating Seniors.

  • Construct vocational opportunities through the local high schools to put a lineman training program in effect.

  • Embrace financial transparency to our members so they can see where their money goes.

  • Educate our members on the cost of infra-structure and what it costs to maintain and repair it.

  • Be accessible to all members who have questions or concerns about any of our policies and procedures.
